Far South Film invites filmmakers and lovers of film to a fascinating online conversation with two esteemed editors from the Australian film industry on the art and craft of editing.
The Far South Coast is fortunate to be called home by both Denise Haslem ASE and Dany Cooper ASE, who are sure to inspire and entertain with their insights into the world of film.
Denise is a producer and editor with over 40 years’ experience in the film and television industry and a long slate of documentary edits to her name. Apart from producing and editing the award-winning Mabo – Life of an Island Man and a series of documentaries filmed in Arnhem Land, she also produced Doc – A Portrait of Herbert Vere Evatt and A Calcutta Christmas. Her editing credits include Once My Mother, Constance on the Edge and the On Trial television series. In 1998 – 99 she was the President of Australian Screen Editors (ASE), the guild devoted to protecting, promoting and improving the role of the editor.
Dany works on feature films and television drama both in Australia and internationally and has 20 nominations and 10 awards including an Emmy nomination for the remake of Battlestar Galactica TV series 2003. A former president of the Australian Screen Editors Guild and member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Dany was invited in 2019 to be a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. She is known for her work on Puberty Blues, The Sapphires, The Drover’s Wife, Breath, Redfern Now and I Am Woman amongst an impressive and lengthy list of films and TV series.
The event will be held online at 6.00pm on Thursday 24 June 2021, hosted by Vanessa Milton from ABC South East NSW, herself an AACTA-nominated editor of acclaimed documentary Blue and winner of an AFI Award for her editing of Forbidden Lie$.
