Cultural Considerations Training with Alison Simpson
Cultural awareness is fundamental if we are interacting or working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. All of us interpret and evaluate things in different ways and what we think is right and appropriate in one culture, can be offensive to another. Misunderstanding occurs when we think, speak and behave in our world and think that it is socially acceptable to do the same in someone else’s world.
In this one-day session, participants will learn about:
- Cultural Protocols
- Indigenous Identification
- Indigenous Disadvantage
- Aboriginal History
- Australian Government Policies and their Impact
- Aboriginal Inter-generational Trauma
- Cultural Sensitivity
- Communication & Engagement
- Myths & Stereotypes – Achievements & Forward Progression
